New noise rating on labels for household tumble dryers
External resources
New ecodesign regulations for labelling household tumble dryers, which include a noise rating, have been laid before parliament. A statutory instrument covering Ecodesign for Energy Related Products includes specification of an eco label - which includes a noise rating alongside energy, repairability and condensation information. Noise levels are graded A – D, with noise emission of a household tumble dryer determined as the weighted average value (LWA) of the sound power in the eco programme at full load during the drying cycle, expressed in dB(A). The ratings range from A – which is equal to or below 60dB(A) to D – which above 68 dB(A). On current labels a decibel level is displayed. The energy label which includes noise come into force from September 19th 2026, and covers England, Scotland and Wales. This brings labelling into line with updated EU requirements.
